Sunday Notes: Well Kept Secrets, Laughs and...Murder

I've decided to make writing my "resolution" in 2020 (more on that in a subsequent post), so in addition to starting a journaling habit, I'm going to work on dropping a blog post every Sunday. The focus will be communicating some quick notes on things I think are cool or that I've been ruminating. My hope is to deliver quick, interesting content that delivers value for anyone who stumbles upon this, or if I should be so lucky, is an avid reader.

READ: Analog In A Digital World

During the holidays, we're always in search of the perfect gift. Something that's novel, thoughtful and useful for that special someone. I discovered what I thought was a great gift for Jenny, and in doing so, stumbled upon something that surprised me and offers a lot of value.

The Realization: Magazine subscriptions are crazy inexpensive.

A single magazine at a store is usually five or six bucks, but if you just order an annual subscription, it's like, $12 (give or take a few bucks). I felt like a genius when I put two print subscriptions in Jenny's stocking (Food + Wine and Better Homes & Gardens) at the low, low price of $24.

As Jenny and I continue to assess our digital wellness and media consumption, we've really leaned towards the "old guard" of print - books, magazines and the Sunday newspaper. Just by nature of consuming these formats, you are forced to "disconnect" from technology and spend time in the moment with the text in front of you. In addition to that, we get some really compelling recipes, wine recco's and ideas for the house that are curated by real experts, delivered to our door monthly.

See for yourself. Curious to hear what mag you'll be reading if you jumped on board like we did.

WATCH: Kevin Hart's "Don't F**K This Up"

A compelling look into the life and mind of one of our generation's biggest/littlest comedians.

Really interesting to get this level of access into someone's life who is so successful to see his approach.

Let me know what stood out to you. As a new-ish father, the agonizing amount of travel that pulls Kevin away from his wife and kids made for a visceral viewing experience for me. Work/Life balance is a tough and constant struggle that we ALL fight whether you're one of the biggest stars in the world or one of us "regular" folk.

LISTEN: Detective Trapp Podcast

Like everyone who is an avid podcast listener, I tend to fall into ruts where I listen to the same couple of pods and forget there's an entire exciting world of choices out there beyond my regular listens.

Recently, I hit that "rut" and went searching for some new and exciting listens. That's when I found "Detective Trapp"

It's a very-well-done true crime series that is only seven episodes long (aka binge worthy). It covers the journey of a wildly talented female homicide detective as she unraveled a shocking serial killer case from right here in Orange County.

Have a great week!
