Vegetables: The Struggle Is Real

The struggle to truly consume enough vegetables is real. At least for me it is and I imagine it is for a lot of other folks as well. That's why I "invented" Green Water, my almost daily veggie drink that actually tastes kind of good while being loaded with veggies and nutrient sans the load of sugar that usually sneaks into smoothie type drinks.
Let's face it, our maligned "american diet" typically kicks fresh vegetables to the curb in favor of bread, fried shit, butter-lathered pasta and more. I'm no dietary saint by any means, but I've recently been trying to up my vegetable intake to ensure I'm optimizing the nutrients I'm putting into my body when I can, especially to start my day.
Inspiration struck after a business trip to Salt Lake City where I also got to stay with my buddy, Greg Mahle, who is a stud pitcher in the Angel's organization. I saw him slamming these disgustingly nutritious "shakes" before he'd head to the field each day that were comprised of fresh kale and spinach + water (I told you it was disgusting and nutritious).
Now, I'm not a dietician and I'm not about to try and explain the health benefits of jamming a bunch of dark, leafy greens and other veggies into your diet, but I think we can all agree we've heard enough to know it helps prevent things like cancer, heart disease, etc.
Without further explanation, here's my "Green Water Recipe" in case anyone wants to try it out:
Ingredients:
- Spinach (or kale) - A shitload aka 2 big handfuls
- Carrots - 4-6 baby carrots
- Blueberries - half a handful (not to much, they have sugar)
- Raw Cashews (or other non-salted nuts like walnuts, almonds) - half a handful
- Vega Vegetable Protein - 1 scoop
- Water - fill almost to the top of the Nutribullet glass after all ingredients are in there
- Alternate Adds: Cucumber slices, avocado, cauliflower

Dropped those bad boys in a Nutribullet or blender and let it rip!

This recipe makes enough for 2 servings or 1 big ass serving. Whichever you prefer. I tend to pound it pretty quickly after blending because I'm superstitious about wanting those micronutrients in my body at their peak nutritiousness right after the veggies have been sliced and diced and aren't oxidizing (there's probably no validity to drinking it that quickly after, but whatever).
Enjoy and cheers to trying to your own pursuit of health and happiness!
